Kickoff 2011
Written by Sarah Stuart on January 08, 2011Team 230 got off to a great start Saturday January 8, 2011 with this season’s well anticipated kick-off. High school students, mentors, volunteers, and parents were in attendance as they spent the morning watching the live webcast of the FRC kick-off. It featured guests such as Will.I.Am, from the musical group Black Eyed Peas, and of course the founder of FIRST itself, Dean Kamen. Finally, after months of waiting, the 2011 game was revealed as Logo Motion.
Logo Motion is played with tubes shaped as the FIRST logo: red triangles, white circles, and blue squares. The points are scored by placing these game pieces on a scoring grid at each end of the field. Tubes placed in the FIRST’s logo order earn additional points. In the last ten seconds of the match, known as "end game", robots are allowed to deploy "minibots" onto towers in the middle of the field, which climb to the top to score up to 30 points.
With so much to do and only six weeks to accomplish this task, the team wasted no time and got straight to work. The team members present broke off into three groups to discuss this year’s competition. After an hour of discussion the team reconvened and considered strategies. By the end of the day, the team had both a plan for this Robotics season, and a renewed enthusiasm.
