Team 230 Has a Blast at the Bash
Written by Bryan Stuart on October 01, 2004The Bash at the Beach has, over the last few years, been an event that amplifies the true spirit of F.I.R.S.T. Robotics, and this year was no different. Hosted by Team 236, the Techno Ticks, and Team 521, the Leet Crew, this annual bash is a place where teams can get together for a friendly rematch of the previous season?s competition.
This year, twenty-nine teams attended the bash, and what a show it was. Old Lyme High School was buzzing with teams from all over New England. Supporting Team 230 that day were students Steve O?Connor, Steve Symski, Elissa Voccola, Samantha Lipscomb, Bryan Stuart, Tom Victor. Also showing spirit were Mr. Rick Vogl, Mrs. Symski, Mrs. Stuart, Mr. Bob Lundberg and Brian Lundberg. Everyone gave a helping hand to keep things rolling smoothly, whether it was changing a battery, scouting, or helping out another team. No one was left out of the action. The competition could not have been more exciting.
With teams showing off all the experience they had gained in the year before, high scores and high hanging robots were abundant at this year?s bash. Anyone could tell you what a sight it was to see four of the biggest robots at the competition reach high for a spot on the bar and refuse to let go. The Gaelhawks themselves did well, hanging on the bar regularly during their matches. The day was truly one of teamwork: adults spent their time cheering, while students did everything from fixing the robot to coaching the driver and operator during matches. Everyone got caught up in the moment, remembering just how exciting robotics competitions can be.
The day would not have been complete without a group photo ?on the beach?, including beach hats, buckets, and swim floats. The end of the event was marked by a raffle, with baskets of fun items donated by the competing teams as prizes. All in all, the day certainly was a blast! Teamwork, heated competition, and lots of fun helped to keep the spirit of the game in all of us, and get teams pumped for next year?s competition.
