Gaelhawks Capture the Spirit of the City of Brotherly Love

The Gaelhawks season continued this year with the Philadelphia Regional Competition. The team traveled down to the 'City of Brotherly Love" the weekend of March 27th for another exciting game to test our robot against those of many other skilled teams.

The Talon IV robot fought gallantly through the qualifying rounds of the competition. Each time the robot was on the playing field the members in the stands cheered it on to victory. Due to the outstanding performance in these rounds, the Gaelhawks were chosen by one of the top seeded teams as an alliance partner and as a result advanced to the quarterfinals. With the excitement of the competition building, the team won the first match of the finals but, despite a valiant effort, experienced a disappointing loss in the second match. Overall the team left the competition tied for third place out of 44 teams participating.

The team?s spirit throughout the competition as well as its contribution to the Shelton community did not go unnoticed during the closing ceremonies of this competition. As various awards were being announced, the Gaelhawks were pleased to hear that they were announced as the recipient of the Daimler Chrysler Team Spirit Award. This award recognized the team?s spirit throughout the competition as well as in so many other aspects of the program. Heads were held high as a sea of orange once again proudly marched up to the center stage to accept this coveted award.

As the weekend came to a close team members packed up their belongings for the trip home and Talon IV was packed up to be shipped to Houston, Texas for the National Competition. Everyone boarded the bus for the trip home with feelings of success and contentment as well as a pride and a sense of accomplishment evident on their faces. The long trip home to Shelton was indeed a pleasant one.
