The third annual Shelton High School Robotics Team Dinner Auction Fundraiser was held in the high school cafeteria on March 7, 2003. Those in attendance included parents, faculty, students, engineers, and family and friends of the team. Mrs. Robin Willink, Assistant Superintendent of Schools. and Mr. Donald Ramia, Headmaster of Shelton High School, were also included among the many supporters.

A festive atmosphere greeted the guests as they entered the room bedecked with orange balloons and other festive decorations. Talon IV was on display and co-captains Dave Wickers and Soren Ibsen demonstrated its capabilities to the pleasure and awe of the visitors. Team members sold raffle tickets, as the tables filled with the many and varied prizes for the Silent, Chinese, and Live Auctions, drew the attention of the guests.

A delightful supper, catered by Smeraglino Caterers of Bridgeport, was enjoyed by all as they anticipated the auction. As dessert was being served, Mr. Ramia stepped up to the podium and once again assumed the role of auctioneer. From box seat tickets to a Yankee game, to weekend stays at hotels, to dinning out at local restaurants, just to mention a few, the prizes were quickly bid on and auctioned off.

The evening came to a close at 9:00 p.m. and it didn?t take too long to realize what a total social and financial success it was. The Robotics Team is extremely grateful to the Shelton Community for its encouragement and support. Without the donations of supplies and prizes for the event, it would not be the success that it always is.

The team spirit and the community response that this fundraiser evokes is something of which the Gaelhawks are proud. The additional funds generated by the evening are vital to the continuation of the program. Each year has seen a definite increase in interest of this event. All in the Shelton Community are invited to take notice of this and of other upcoming events by referring to future newsletters and other local publications, and by visiting our official website www.shsrobotics.org.
