Robotics Kickoff
Written by Anthony J. Castorina on January 10, 2003"Good Evening ladies and gentlemen," and so our evening begins. At the third annual Robotics Kickoff Gala, an assembly of robotics enthusiasts gathered to listen to and share information on the latest advancements in the Shelton High School Robotics Program. Parents, advisors, and students alike convened to be briefed on this year's events and expectations.
Mr. John Niski, faculty advisor to the team, extended a warm welcome to all, introduced other faculty advisors and volunteer engineers from the community, and presented a brief overview of the agenda for the evening. Last year's achievements and tasks were described and discussed by faculty member, Mr. Lou Schmecker, followed by the presentation of Awards of Recognition to major sponsors of the Robotics Program. Some of the recipients of the awards included Perkin Elmer, Pitney Bowes, The Shelton Board of Education, The Shelton Police Association, The Shelton High School Father's Club, and UTC Sikorsky.
At the conclusion of the meeting, parents, honored guests, and students alike enjoyed an opportunity to view last year's robot, discuss the program, and take pleasure in the refreshments that were served. Assistant Superintendent Robin Willink was asked about her thoughts and feelings. She warmly stated, "I think this program is an outstanding part of the Shelton Curriculum."
Positive comments were also spoken by many parents, who strongly supported their child's involvement in the program. Mr. Kline, who deals with the animation aspect of the team, stated, "I feel the Robotics program is an extremely important, well run program. It is a learning experience for both students and adults in engineering, team work, and leadership".
The night was truly an effective experience and as many said, "This year is going to be a great one!"
