Bash at the Beach

On Saturday, October 25, The Shelton High School Robotics team traveled to East Lyme Middle School to participate in a one-day robotics competition called "Bash at the Beach." The gymnasium was decorated to theme, including the judges and staff, who wore beach attire.

From the moment the team arrived, members of the Gaelhawks began to work diligently in setting up the robot. Participants from all over New England and New York gathered in the stands to cheer for their teams. Members of the Gaelhawks not only participated in operating the robot, but also helped reset the playing field in between matches.

When the elimination rounds of the competition began, the Gaelhawks were privileged enough to have an alliance with RAGE, the defending national FIRST Competition champions. Mr. Niski, an advisor for the Gaelhawks, said, "It is always exciting to work with new teams, especially to be paired up with the defending national champions, RAGE. I think alliances are awesome, and we had not previously been paired up with RAGE."

The Talon III was controlled by Soren Ibsen and David Wickers throughout the day. The competition wound down after a series of matches between the two top alliances. After that, awards were given out to numerous teams. Talon III and the members of the Gaelhawks uniquely stood out for their perseverance, skill, and enthusiasm.

The "Bash at the Beach" concluded the 2001-2002 season for the Gaelhawks, and now they look forward to participating at new events in the upcoming season.
