Bash @ the Beach

The 2006, 8th annual Bash at the Beach, held by team 236, the TechnoTicks, was quite an interesting off-season competition for the Gaelhawks. Teams from as far away as Pennsylvania and New Hampshire attended this scrimmage in Old Lyme, Connecticut. On the morning of October 14th, team members arrived early at the school to pack up the robot and tools.

The Gaelhawks, after becoming slightly lost in the school where the competition was being held, managed to set up shop in the pit and prepare the robot for the qualifying matches. After a few trial rounds of seeing who could operate and drive the robot, it was decided who would fill the positions of driver and operator.

The Gaelhawks battled it out with the other teams and made it through the qualifying rounds. Paired up along with team 809, the Techno Wizards, and team 1784, the Litchbots, team 230 managed to keep up with the other teams, winning one round and losing another.

In the last match, disaster struck when the robot ran over a poof ball and lost a chain on a rear wheel. Surprisingly, the robot still moved across the field well, except for the fact that it couldn?t turn properly. That round was lost and the Gaelhawks' alliance didn?t place, but Team 230 proudly walked off with the KISS (Keep It Simple, Stupid) award. It was certainly an exciting day.
