Circus Robotix Lego League Competition Comes to Shelton

On December 5th, 2009, Shelton Intermediate School held the Circus Robotix Lego league competition, a local event for Connecticut teams belonging to the FIRST Lego League. This event was previously held at Bridgeport University, but this was the first year it was held at the Intermediate School. The event itself was a smashing success. Over 30 teams from across Connecticut came to compete, making this the largest local competition in Connecticut. Another first for this competition was that Shelton had two teams competing this year, The SIS Thundering Tigers (an 8th grade team), and a rookie team, Thundering Tigers Revolution, a 7th grade team. Both teams did extremely well, each receiving a Golden Ticket for the Connecticut State Championships, and Thundering Tigers Revolution placed 3rd overall in the competition. The event was held and staffed by members the Gaelhawks, with volunteer assistance by teams 558 and 1099. The volunteer force acted as a well oiled machine, and despite starting behind schedule, they were able to get the competition back on track and finish on time. As well as providing a fun and exciting experience for the FLL teams, the Gaelhawks also made an excellent profit from the concession stands, which is going towards this year’s robot as well for attending competitions. As a whole, it was a great day for the Gaelhawks and for the Lego League, and we are looking forward to holding it again next year.
